I tried, I really did try...

Sometimes you just have to give in to creative impulses. I tried to keep plugging away at all my summery yarn projects and then Stephen West pops up on Ravelry and then again on Craftsy (he has a class on Shawls there!!) and I couldn't resist the urge to start drooling over his designs (WestKnits).

And, as if that wasn't enough, the Malabrigo Rios (very practical but lovely hand dyed  superwash) just kept staring at me like there was something wrong with me for not immediately grabbing it and casting on The Boneyard Shawl.  So, well I guess you know what I did... and here is the unadulterated proof, in the Candombe color way.  West Knits FREE pattern for the Boneyard Shawl can be found on Ravelry, along with lots more Stephen West designs!

They say recognizing and admitting your problem is the best way to begin dealing with it.  I really don't think that is working in my case. :), and when it comes to fiber I wouldn't want it any other way.

Happy Knitting!

Lovely crocheted doilies

The very talented Teena Fritz Gordon has her crochet doilies in the shop for sale. They are so beautifully hand made. Lots of uses for these, like place one under a potted plant and protect your furniture. I just love them. Intricate details that are not done justice by the photos. Come see these in person! You will not believe how affordable and beautiful they are.

New Beaded Bling in the Shop

Victoria Master's gorgeous hand beaded and hand knit jewelry, made exclusively for Bella Luna Knits, is now available in the shop. There is more to shop for than I have room to display. Stop in and get yours now. Beautiful and affordable.

Mother's Day 2013 - Knit A Long Update

I hope you all had a wonderful Mother's Day. I spent the day being really lazy and knitting on the EuroCowl we chose for the KAL. Here's my progress so far. If you get ahead of me, don't forget about the crochet bind off required to maintain a stretchy edge. Another option is the sewn bind off. I'll be posting videos later in May to show you how.

Yesterday was a busy day at Diva Day in Lake City. I sold mostly soap but, we met a lot of nice people who now know where the shop is! I pretty much turned the shop upside down taking things for our display at the show so, tomorrow is reorganize day! I've got these darling little knitted and crocheted bracelets I made for sale in the shop $7 each. Aren't they cute?

I'm looking forward to finding ways to get the yarn bomb squares/circles/etc made and plan a date to sew them on the tree for the season. It will certainly brighten up the front of the shop and generate interest for the fiber arts in general. I've had so much yarn donated for the yarn bomb! We will have a giveaway soon on the condition recipients of free yarn give back at least one square or other shape for the tree.

Speaking of fiber arts, spinning is awesome and I can't wait to ply my first yarn and learn how to use my jumbo flyer to make crazy art yarns. Learning to dye is next on the agenda. I'm trying to practice spinning everyday for at least 30 minutes.

Again, I hope you had a wonderful, relaxing day. See you at the shop soon.

Bella Luna Spins Too!

Hello Fellow Fiber Fondling Fiends!

It's been far too long since I wrote anything.  Once I got the wheel (and then had two days off) I could not stop spinning.  Without my dear friend, Pat McAlhaney, I would not have known what to do (still have a LONG way to go learning) but her serendipitous delivery of a Spin-Off Magazine (Spring 2010) amid a stack of Piece Work gave me just enough knowledge to attempt it on my own.

The moment I touched that fiber to the leader thread I was hooked.  I mean totally, completely, and ecstatically hooked.  In fact I believe there must be a new word to be developed that describes how I felt in that instant.  I am addicted to spinning.  I still have yet to get the thin, consistent sock weight I desire - instead I seem determined to spin at worsted weight and to add a little too much spin (which I discovered I could unspin slightly if I ran it back through counter-clockwise).  I also treadle furiously instead of slowly (I am certain you are surprised by this) and keep my hands way too far apart.

I'm still pretty darn impressed with what I accomplished with 8 ozs of the most gorgeous merino/silk in a pale aqua shade of blue from Ewephoric Fibers.  The very first part of which is shown here in the hand of my good friend Holly Zawoy who I gifted that little darling ball of yarn to... :-)

and all three spools full before the end of that day which I selfishly kept.

The three spool shot is before I backed out some of the spin going counter-clockwise so it ended up much better than this.

And then Saturday my Aunt and Cousin came...

I discovered my Aunt Eleanor loves Spring Green and I wanted to make her something for her birthday (the day after mine in July).  So Bailey discovered I had a 4 oz hank of gorgeous green merino/bamboo/nylon also from Ewephoric Fibers.  At this point I realize I'm like the drug dealer who needs their own fix... I'm pawing on my own retail inventory... but I still have to say THANK YOU GINGER -without you and JANE and EWEPHORIC FIBERS I would not have had something quickly at hand.  We won't talk about how hard it is now to just look at it all hanging there...

So I spun the green crack.. um fiber.  And it was luscious and a completely different experience with the bamboo.  I loved it.  It occurred to me then that every spin will be a different spin because every fiber spins differently and the better I get at it the better the results will be.  Oh my.  Now what?  This little spin took about 30 minutes (again treadling way too fast from excitement) and resulted in just enough yarn to do something very skinny and lacey to hang around Aunt Eleanor's neck.  Since she doesn't read FaceBook this will be our little secret until July.

And then the mail came...

So I frequently get on Etsy late at night and see something I cannot live without.  Most of the time I live without it.  This time I ordered it immediately.  You see it was BFL (Blue Faced Leicester) in a colorway that matches my shop colors - plum and green.  Holy Cow.  I had to have this colorway and I ordered two 2 oz hanks of fiber.  It just happened to show up in the mailbox an hour after I had spun the Spring Green merino/bamboo/nylon.  OH my goodness.

Well, I'm sure you know what I did and here are the results of all three of my first major two-day long foray into the world of spinning after a nice hot wash in Eucalan and a "snap" and a little weight from a towel to pull the rest of the over-spin out.  I can't stop touching it.

So, now you know why I've been so quiet.  Now you know I've actually been doing RESEARCH.  And, on top of this I'm getting ready for Diva Day in Lake City at the Fairgrounds this Saturday.

Call me crazy but I'd rather be addicted to this than anything I can think of.  Until you've tried it, you will not know how awesome spinning can be.

Now I have to get back to that no wrap/no turn/no picking up wraps heel for my two at a time toe-up sock class on May 18th!

Happy fiber fondling,

Kim

DON'T MISS THIS YARN! 3 weeks Only!

Today started out to be such a blah day.  With over 3 inches of rain already fallen overnight it sure made for a dreary start.  I always love going to the shop but the rain just didn't help my frame of mind this morning,

and THEN, the most amazing thing happened...

Remember when I was drooling over those Knitter's Pride Carbonz Needles last week?  (well, maybe you just weren't paying attention) but anyway, I contacted the rep and had an appointment today to take a look at the different lines of needles offered by Knitter's Pride.  They are so impressive and once I've had some time to peruse the choices you'll be seeing some of them in the Shop along with the ChiaoGoo Red Lace I carry.  So, I was totally up for looking at needles and the rain was still pouring, and my spirit wasn't particularly soaring,

and THEN, Tammy opened her suitcase...

YARN, Glorious YARN, so many bags of yarn, and gorgeous finished objects, in rayon blends and Colors!, fabulous hand-dyed colors and, oh my... I could not believe what I was seeing.  THE most amazing yarns.

So, to make a long story short - YOU now have the opportunity to shop these amazing yarns for the NEXT THREE WEEKS ONLY.  That's right, just until the end of May.  Call this a yarn market test, call it what you will but, you DO NOT want to miss out on these yarns.

These pictures below aren't even going to come close to the real thing.  But, here's a shot of each one.
